How to Find a Mail Postal Code

A postal code is simply a set of numbers or letters, often containing spaces or tabs, enclosed in a post address for the explicit purpose of classifying mail. Postal codes can indicate a street address, a downtown district, or a rural area code, as well as many other factors, depending on the type of mail that is being sorted. For example, some international mail services use postal codes to specify which areas of a country they deliver mail to. Even though the USPS does not advertise this information in regard to their services, you can find mailing address with postal code information by checking with your local post office.

When looking up a mail address with postal code information, you will find the address on a tabular basis, where the column on the right side of the table displays the numeric value of the column. This value is always one, but you may find values ranging from zero to nine displayed in certain situations. For example, when the item is being sorted by a specific destination, the destination code is entered into the appropriate field. Similarly, when you are looking up the street address of someone, the number of characters in the 'Street Name' box will be one less than the number in the 'Postal Code' box, unless the street name is prefixed with a space.

To search for a mail postal code with a different output help system, you can use the 'Search by Postcode' function. To use this feature, you simply need to type in the street address of the person in question, followed by a colon and then the postal code, including any stops (preferably, without spaces) after the colon. This command can be used to look up multiple addresses, or it can be used to narrow down addresses to a particular area. To input help or options, click on the appropriate icon, which will usually be a small arrow or other symbol. If there is no icon, there will be a drop-down list of options; if there is an option, you will see a word-list that will give you options such as 'holidays', 'car rentals', etc.
