US Postal Service (USPS) Zip Code Directory

There are times when you need to know the International Mailing Address of a particular person, or to check on an existing mail address. This can be done easily with the help of the US Postal Service (USPS) zip code system. The US Postal Service's zip code system is considered to be a practical and easy way to determine an individual's street address from a specific location on the map.

A US Postal Service (USPS) zip code is a four digit number that is used to identify street addresses in the United States Postal Service's Centralized Stationery Collection (CS). The CS is a database of addresses and is used for correspondence routing, with street address data being coded according to their assigned codes. Some of these codes include: Zone Codes, Post Office Code/divisional Designation, and Post Office Mailing Address Lists. The USPS web site offers several features that can be used by subscribers or customers for the purpose of finding a US Postal Service (USPS) zip code. These include entering a street address, state or city, along with a zip code or area code and clicking the "Search" button.

Another way to find a US Postal Service (USPS) zip code is to use the International Mailing Address Locator Tool, commonly known as the IML. The International Mailing Address Locator Tool features country-specific databases where users can enter the full name of a person or address, and then it will provide search results matching that information. For example, if the mailing address was from the state of Texas, the user would be able to see if there was a post office located in Texas, and thus, receive details of that post office's location. This can be extremely useful in a situation where a person needs to send out mail internationally but doesn't really know the country that the mail was sent in, or even if it was a different country entirely.
